Yom Hashoah Commemoration & Yiddish Poetry
Wednesday, April 11, 2018 • 26 Nisan 5778
8:00 PM - 9:30 PM80 Bennett Ave #5EHolocaust poetry is at times despairing, at others reflective, at times a form of memorialization and at others a call to arms and to rebellion – both against the enemy and God. We shall explore some of these motifs as we look at several Yiddish poems (in English translation) by authors such as Reyzl Zhikhlinski, Avrom Sutzkever and Yankev Glatsheyn in a discussion led by Sheva Zucker.
Sheva teaches Yiddish and Yiddish literature at YIVO's Uriel Weinreich Program in Yiddish Language, Literature and Culture and has taught Literature of the Holocaust at Duke University.
A memorial service for the martyrs of the Holocaust will follow the discussion.
