About Us
Welcome to Fort Tryon Jewish Center, an independent synagogue in Northern Manhattan with an original approach to tradition.
As an unaffiliated congregation that has long been an anchor of the Washington Heights Jewish community, we have thrived by evolving with our neighborhood and our membership. Today, the congregation is a diverse medley of families and individuals from many backgrounds. Our egalitarian services and traditional ritual — spiritual, tuneful and participatory — attract people of all levels of observance.
We take a communal approach to all our activities, and believe that everyone has something to contribute. Our members find that the FTJC experience is about the bonds we forge together as much as the religion we share.
On Shabbat, we offer several different children’s services in addition to the main service, so every age group can join in at a joyful and meaningful level. Our splendid Shabbat kiddush is famous from Brooklyn to the Bronx, and our holiday celebrations offer the warmth of home with a festival sparkle.
Nothing makes us happier than seeing new faces at services or at one of our community Shabbat dinners. Please contact us with any questions that you don’t find answered on our website. We hope to welcome you in person very soon!
